A dozen of our finest 🙌I received these beauties from Gimblett Gravels Hawke's Bay Wine some months ago and tucked them in my cellar so they could relax a little.
As we head out on our road trip soon and will be spending time in the Hawke’s Bay it’s time to do the reviews.
Will be working on them Wednesday so if any of my wine buddies are around Thursday and would like to try them, let me know.

Thank you Michael CooperWHAT I’M DRINKING Hawke's Bay has long been acclaimed for its ‘Bordeaux-style’ reds, blended principally from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. These distinguished examples are from the favourably sunny, dry 2019 vintage in the Gimblett Gravels. Named after pioneer winemaker Father Antoine Gavin, Mission Estate Jewelstone Antoine 2019 (*****, $50) is a classy blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, matured for a year in French oak barriques. Deeply coloured, it is rich and silky-textured, with dense, ripe blackcurrant, plum and herb flavours, fresh acidity and obvious cellaring potential. Pask Declaration Gimblett Gravels Merlot 2019 (*****, $50) is a refined, very age-worthy red, deep and youthful in colour, with concentrated blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, seasoned with nutty oak, impressive complexity and fine, supple tannins. Trinity Hill The Gimblett 2019 (*****, $40) is a dark, full-bodied blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Tempranillo matured for 20 months in French oak barrels. Powerful, it has concentrated, ripe blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, showing very good complexity, in a classic claret style with obvious cellaring potential. $40
