The Blake Family Vineyard is a 20acre, proprietor-owned vineyard, located at 125 Gimblett Road in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. In 1981, the Blake Family Vineyard was planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and now our singular intention is to make a world-class Bordeaux-style red wine using the winegrowing techniques of the Old World and the location and terroir of the New World. As one of the original vineyards on Gimblett Road, we benefit from both the gravelly soils and warmth of our site and the age of our vines to extract fruit of concentration, complexity and elegance.
Each vintage we select only the best of what the vineyard offers to create this limited release wine. In the vineyard we practice severe pruning, careful deleafing, and crop thinning to achieve lilliputian yields, which results in fruit of extraordinary intensity. We then hand-harvest and vinify each variety separately, to evaluate the characteristics of each individual lot, while it is still in the barrel. We select only the best barrels to create the final blend of our proprietary 125 Gimblett Road red wine.
