Beach House Wines is a family affair with Ralph and Philipa Harrison running the winery and homestay at 50 Clifton road Te Awanga, sited on a 16-acre vineyard growing Chardonnay, Riesling and Gewürztraminer. Chris Harrison, their son and his wife, Jill, run Roosters Brew House a boutique brewery on Omahu road. The also have a ten acre vineyard down Mere road on Gimblett Gravels soil growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a small amount of Montepulciano. The Beach House winery is situated within sight of the ocean, between Haumoana and Te Awanga. It is constructed of straw bales in a Mexican adobe style and set in a 2-acre garden beside a small lake. All the Beach House vines have only recently been planted, Gimblett Gravels fruit will be harvest off the Mere road vineyard in 2002 with a peak production of approximately 25 tonnes of premium red grape being harvested in the ensuing vintages.
